Sequel, Part Deux

Right now I'm watching Return to Snowy River, the sequel to The Man from Snowy River. While the first one was good, I was fuming at the end. I've been told that this one will make me mad only until about the last fourth of the movie. (sigh) I'm banking on that. Other movie franchises have proved phenomenal, while others should've never seen the light of the projector. Karate Kid II...and III come to mind.

So I'm wondering: which movie sequels have you loved? Despised? Do you think it's always a mistake to try to top a great story, or should a great movie keep the good times rolling with a follow-up?

Seldom do sequels do justice to the origional story line. However, you cannot dismiss Lord of the Rings, the Narnia movies, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and some of the Star Wars. The "They shouldn't have tried" category: Shanghi Knights (or whatever the title is), Zorro, the George Clooney Batman movie, and those horrible movies that come from TBN (Left Behind and the like), the Magnificent 7 Ride Again, The Return of the Magnificent 7, and the Last Stand of the Mag 7. Rambo parts 2 and 3 (4 was a good movie). And I could go on, but why waste everyone's time?

It seems that nowadays (is that a word?) every. single. movie. is written for the sole purpose of having a sequel. Is it really necessary to have a Transformers sequel? Really?

I agree with Mr. Inman with his list of decent sequels, though. And need to add MIB II, Austin Powers, and Harry Potter to the list of good ideas. :) Also...let us not forget that Mr. Mel Brooks NEEDS to create a Spaceballs sequel. "Spaceballs III, The Search for Spaceballs II." You know I'd be first in line at the theater for that one. ;)

I saw in a magazine this week that it has been about 10 years since Grosee Point Blank and they recommended that Martin Blank attend his 20 year reunion. I think that would be fun.

We only got to see the freshman year of college for Bobby Boucher so I would say that we need a sequel for The Waterboy.

Speaking of movies and sequels...I love your picture and the caption today.

Yay, Dan! I was wondering if anyone beside David or I would get it. Downside: I've had that song stuck in my head.

I like the Bobby Boucher idea. He needs to go play some more foosball with his freeeunds.

Kara, all I can say is, "Swing low, sweet chariottt..."

Will, Indiana Jones stinks.
